Die dam is ’n kritieke bron van water vir duisende hektaar wingerde en ander gewasse. In ’n streek waar landbou werk aan duisende verskaf, is die gevolge van swak kommunikasie en onbeplande waterverliese verreikend.
“Wat hier gebeur het, is ’n klap in die gesig van elke boer en plaaswerker in die vallei,” sê Du Bois. “Ons vra nie spesiale behandeling nie – net dat ons as belangrike rolspelers ingesluit word in besluite wat ons direkte lewensbestaan raak.”
